Lions Gave MacBeans Family
ICON

In May 2014 Yeovil Lions Club (Untamed) were able to assist the MacBean Family from Beer Hackett with the last £500 they needed in order to buy a specially adapted bicycle/wheel-chair. There son Ollie suffers from a rare metabolic condition called carbohydrate deficient glycoprotein type 1a (CDG 1a).  The managed to source a second-hand bike for £2000 (new they cost about £5K).  They raised £1500 through their own fund-raising and Y.L.C. (Untamed) were able to top up the final amount. Thank you to everyone who has helped Y.L.T. (Untamed) raise funds towards this and many other valuable projects.  We really can make a difference.

South Somerset Disability Forum based in Yeovil, Somerset, would like to say a huge thank you to the Lions Association for their generous donation of £750, and to Jack Palmer from IT Solutions for providing the equipment and installing it for us. We have used this money to equip our office with new printers, network and backup software. This will hugely benefit our volunteers using the computers. A new network provides a stable computer environment from which to work and documents can be safely backed up.

Lions funded Driving Lessons
ICON

The request was made to the Lions Club to see if we could provide funds for Dominic’s father to have driving lessons which would enable the whole family to have a greater degree of independence. Yeovil Lions Club of Yeovil were only too pleased to make a donation to this effect but also thought that in the short term the family’s difficulties could be eased by putting £250 into an account with a local taxi firm so that they didn’t have to rely on public transport so much.  President of the club John Nicholas of Transport Systems wanted to see if he could use his contacts within the motor trade to improve this and very quickly found two very willing supporters in Andy Rossiter of Radio Cabs who agreed to match the £250 donation into the taxi fund and Stuart Field of Ahead of the Field driving instructors  who offered a series of lessons for Dominic’s father at a very discounted rate.

The binoculars have already been used by South Somerset District Council's ranger team on their bird week event in February half term. The Community Ranger, Becky Russell, has found them to be a great asset when taking groups and school groups around the country park on educational trips.

Duke of Edinburgh award scheme

Geoff Cooke a maths lecturer and head of the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme at the Gryphon School, Sherborne, receiving a contribution towards their new trailer. This donation was made by Dawn and Peter Lunn of Yeovil Lion’s Club Untamed.

To transport all the equipment, students and back packs etc to various locations in order for the students to train for the ‘Ten Tor’s’ and the ‘Duke of Edinburgh’ award scheme, the Gryphon school required assistance to purchase a suitable box trailer. Previously they had been transporting everything in the schools mini bus which was overloading it.
