April 2012 at Lanes Hotel, West Coker. A cheque for £1000 was presented to Mr Griffith the secretary of Chilthorne Domer Village Hall Community. This group were helping a local young lady who wanted to remain independent in the community and not be a burden to society and to do this she needed a new electric wheel chair to provide greater mobility from her debilitating illness.

Amelia Cross from the Park School, Yeovil receiving a monetary prize and certificate at the Lions District 105SW Convention held at Croyde Bay Holiday Resort from the 10th to the 12th March 2017 for winning the Lions Peace Poster competition from our District which covers Cornwall, Devon and South Somerset, she was also entered in the UK competition where she achieved second place. The other photo’s are of Amelia’s winning poster along with the words she used to describe her interpretation of peace. Amelia’s poster along with others from out District will be on display in Well’s Cathedral from the 6th to the 12th May 2017. Lions Club International are celebrating their centenary year in 2017 since they were originally formed in Chicago by business man Melvin Jones if 1917. Yeovil Lions was formed in 1965. To celebrate this occasion the Lions clubs of Yeovil, Ilminster, Crewkerne, Sedgemoor, City of Wells and Glastonbury & Street are all participating in a Centennial Community Legacy Project to plant a tree to be enjoyed by each of their communities and help the environment for years to come. Lions proudly planted a tulip tree in Sydney Gardens. Those present are; Fred Monson Zone Chairman Yeovil Lions and the following members of Yeovil Lions Club, John Morley, Nigel Jacobs, Alison Jacobs, Pete Lunn.

The Lions Branch Untamed presented a cheque for £500 to the Yeovil Free Wheelers. This group of volunteers who transport emergency equipment, blood, organs etc all over Southern England. For no-numeration. The cost to support their bikes and clothing all come from charity fund raising events they stage then selves. They are not supported by the Government or the hospitals they serve. Their value is they can provide an afterhours service to our community.

Yeovil Lions received a request to assist a young family with a young child who was under clinical investigation. Having been under the care of Bristol Children’s hospital through Yeovil hospital the family were informed that further investigations into the sever muscular condition could only be carried out at Newcastle University hospital over the period of a couple of days.
After investigation and discussion with the doctor at Yeovil hospital into the child’s condition and need for further examination and assessment at Newcastle plus reviewing the families situation, Yeovil Lions donated £500 towards the cost of the family getting to this appointment.

Fairmead Community Special School in Yeovil do great work helping young people and teenagers with differing abilities develop the skills for the wider world. As part of this process they encourage the students to become involved in the Duke of Edinburgh’s bronze award scheme. Over the past four years the staff and volunteers have helped the students with this challenging and rewarding experience. The students are awarded their medals at a ceremony at the Octagon Theatre in Yeovil in the presence of mainstream school in Somerset which increases their self esteem. Some of the students have also gone on to start their Silver Duke of Edinburgh awards.

Yeovil Lions held their annual Pantomime evening at the Octagon Theatre Yeovil where they invite children who might not normally be able to visit the theatre. Several local schools Preston Primary, Oaklands, Huish Primary, Birchfield, Fiveways, Holy Trinity, Milford, Fairmead all brought pupils along accompanied by school staff members for a fun evening. Over seventy children came and enjoyed free soft drinks before the pantomime, an ice cream during the interval and a goody bag before they went home.
The evening is funded from money raised by the Lions Club during the year and is seen as a positive way of giving back to the community.

2012 - President Steve Fudge presents a cheque for £4500 to students Jeremy and Tom at Lufton College. The money given was part of the proceeds from the 2011 Fireworks Extravaganza night which the Lions stage every year. This money along with money donated by other local charity organisations in and around Yeovil was put towards purchasing special equipment for a dedicated sensory room within the Lufton facility. This special facility is called the Karten Centre which provides the latest technology to help students communicate with each other and interact with their environment.
