Lions & Fund Raising

The annual Fireworks Spectacular which again was held on Saturday the 5^th the November at the Yeovil Showground for the 47^th year was a great success. The theme was Superhero’s which went down well with the children. The event has grown over its lifetime from a simple bonfire and fireworks to now being a family night out. The entertainment includes fairground rides for all the family along with lots of stalls to test your skills. Live music from a top west country band DT8, the Supper Hero’s to be photographed with, an enormous bonfire to warm you up on a cold evening, hot food and drinks and a bar all culminating in a twenty minute aerial firework display.

The local paper, the Western Gazette gave us fantastic write ups during the weeks before the event and published many of the hundreds of photographs taken with the Supper Hero’s the week after the event.

The event is organised by Yeovil Lions and greatly assisted during setting up, the event and clearing up afterwards by Yeovil Round Table members. We forged this partnership a few years ago to assist each other’s clubs with man power for large event like this.

Each club helps to select the cause for that year’s event, the proceeds are usually split into thirds and each club can then nominate how their share of the proceeds will be allocated to local projects of their choice.

The proceeds from this year’s event were £18,000.

Next year’s event will be held at Yeovil Showground on Saturday the 4^th November 2017.
